Store Scanning — FAQ

How does the store scan work?
When you start a scan, Refiner crawls your product pages, collection pages, and other key areas of your store. It detects SEO issues (missing alt text, duplicate meta descriptions, broken links, thin product descriptions), inventory anomalies, and policy gaps. Results appear in your dashboard within a few minutes depending on store size.
How many pages does the scanner check?
The scanner checks up to the limit defined by your plan (Free: 50 pages, Growth: 500 pages, Scale/Elite: unlimited). You can change the maxProductsPerRun setting in Settings → Inventory to fine-tune the scope.
The scan is stuck or taking too long — what should I do?
Large stores with 10,000+ products may take up to 10 minutes. If the scan shows no progress after 10 minutes, try refreshing the dashboard and clicking Scan Now again. If the issue persists, contact support with your shop domain and the scan start time.
Can I schedule automatic scans?
Yes — on the Elite plan. Enable Auto Mode in Settings → Automation, choose a scan frequency (daily, every 3 days, or weekly), and the app runs background quick scans and applies safe routine fixes automatically. Growth and Scale plans use manual Scan Now and one-click Fix All.

Fixing Issues — FAQ

What is a "fix credit" and how is it consumed?
Each time the app applies a fix to your store (rewriting a product description, adding alt text, resolving a broken link), it uses 1 fix credit. Daily limits apply to all plans and reset at midnight. Free: 10/day · Growth: 50/day · Scale: 300/day · Elite: up to 1,000/day (fair-use limit).
Can I undo a fix?
Yes. From the issue timeline on the dashboard, click any fixed issue and select Revert. Reversions are free (no credit charge). The original value is stored before every fix.
Can Refiner fully manage my store (messages, orders, shipping)?
No. Refiner is a store audit and auto-fix app — not full store operations software. It does not answer customer messages, fulfill orders, print shipping labels, or run warehouse workflows. Refiner finds and fixes technical issues that can hurt revenue or trust (SEO, broken links, content gaps, pricing and configuration mistakes).
What does Auto Mode do?
Auto Mode (Elite only) runs scheduled background scans and automatically applies low-risk routine fixes — such as missing alt text and safe SEO meta updates — without you clicking Scan or Fix All. Fixes count against your daily plan limit. Riskier issues are detected but left for your review. Auto Mode is not full store management. On other plans, use Fix All on the dashboard for bulk one-click fixes.
Will fixes affect my live storefront immediately?
Yes. Fixes that update product titles, descriptions, or alt text are applied directly via Shopify's Admin API and take effect immediately — but only after you review and approve them in Review & Fix, unless you explicitly turn off content review and opt into Auto Mode product-content publishing. Storefront SEO and performance improvements are delivered through optional Theme App Extension blocks — Refiner does not edit your theme code directly.

Billing & Credits — FAQ

What plans are available?
Free — $0/month, 10 fixes/day, hourly scanning, email support.
Growth — $19.99/month or $199.99/year, 50 fixes/day, daily scanning, weekly email report. 7-day free trial.
Scale — $49.99/month or $499.99/year, 300 fixes/day, real-time scanning, up to 2 automated blog posts per day, pricing and AI insights. 7-day free trial.
Elite — $149.99/month or $1,499.99/year, up to 1,000 fixes/day (fair-use), up to 2 automated blog posts per day, Auto Mode (24/7 monitoring), real-time priority scanning, dedicated CSM. No trial.
When do my credits reset?
Daily fix limits reset at midnight. You can see how many fixes you have left today in the Daily Fixes card on the dashboard.
What happens if I run out of credits mid-month?
Scanning and viewing issues is always free. Only applying fixes consumes daily fix credits. If you hit today's limit, wait until midnight for the reset or upgrade your plan on the Plans page for a higher daily cap.
How do I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Go to Plans & Pricing inside the app. Plan changes take effect immediately and are billed pro-rata through Shopify's billing system. Downgrade requests are processed at the end of your current billing cycle.

Alt Text Optimization — FAQ

How does AI alt text generation work?
The app fetches your product images and uses an AI model to generate descriptive, SEO-friendly alt text based on the image content and product title. Suggestions appear for your review before anything is applied to your store.
Can I apply alt text to all products at once?
Yes. Use the Optimize Alt Text button on the dashboard. The app processes products in batches with live progress tracking. Each product image update uses 1 credit. Elite plans are not charged per-image.
Can I edit the AI-generated alt text before applying?
Yes. In the Alt Text section, each suggestion can be previewed and edited inline. Click the pencil icon next to any suggestion, edit the text, then click Apply.

Settings — FAQ

How do I enable the SEO and Performance theme extensions?
Go to Settings → Theme Extension and click Open Theme Editor, or open Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds. Enable the Refiner SEO Embed and Refiner Performance blocks. Refiner does not edit your theme code directly — all storefront SEO and performance improvements are delivered through these optional app blocks.
How do I set up email notifications?
Go to Settings → Notifications. Enable Email Notifications and enter your preferred email address. You can also enable Weekly Report to receive a summary every Monday.
My settings changes aren't saving — what's wrong?
Make sure you click the Save button (or the Shopify Save Bar at the top of the page) after making changes. If you navigate away without saving, you'll see an unsaved-changes confirmation dialog. If saves are silently failing, try refreshing and re-saving.
